Meetings
At Riverside Communicators, we never know quite what to expect, with speakers constantly surprising us with their wide range of interests, activities, views and stories.
If you wish to develop your speaking, coaching and training skills not only for corporate business events but also on an individual and social level or become a Specialist Speaker for Communicating your Message, Speaker for Business, Speaker for Charity, after Dinner Speaker, Social Event Speakers,an MC or just enjoy a warm topical evening out why don't you come along and meet us.
Getting your message across in a clear and concise manner is the first step to ensuring that you have the best chance of achieving your objectives. The speaker’s role is not only to tell people what you want them to hear but also to encourage a change in the behaviour or perception of others.
As part of the Toastmasters International organisation we offer an opportunity for you to develop your speaking skills in a warm, friendly and supportive environment.
One thing you can expect, though, is a well-organised evening, which follows a carefully designed structure designed to help everyone learn and enjoy.
Prepared speeches
Part of the evening is always dedicated to prepared speeches, mostly lasting from 5 - 7 minutes. These follow a series of guidelines and advice from our introductory Communication & Leadership Manual (or various Advanced Manuals).
As speakers we choose our own subjects for the these prepared speeches and as members of the audience we are often surprised by what we hear abolly analyse their performance to help them build on their strengths for the future. They do this by making recommedations on how to improve and commenting on what they did especially well.
Table topics
Everyone also gets a chance to practice speaking off the cuff. The impromptu 'Table Topics' (typically lasting 1 - 1.5 minutes) are set by the Topics Master who invites volunteers to speak without preparation on a surprise topic.
These provide interesting challenges for the speakers and a source of entertainment for the audience.
Central to our meetings and to our personal development are the evaluations where each speaker is given feedback with positive commendations and constructive recommendations. This mutual support and feedback is invaluable.
