Contests

At Riverside Communicators we take part in 5 contests each year.  The International Speech Contest, The Humorous Speech Contest, The Evaluation Contest and the Table Topics Contest. For all of these contests our club winners go on to compete against the winners from other clubs. We also have our own our Riverside Cooper Cup for Storytelling,  From time to time our members have also entered Tall Tales contests.  Not only are the contests great fun, we learn about speaking, about handling our nerves, and about listening – particularly if we volunteer to be judges.

Our unique Cooper Cup for Storytelling

Since one of our oldest and most longstanding members Jean Cooper moved back to her home town of Sheffield we have held the annual Cooper Cup for Storytelling. Jean is a great storyteller – in off the cuff speeches as well as in longer prepared speeches.  She is aways eager to hear who is competing and who wins!

The contest usually takes place in January and any club member who wishes to enter can do so. The stories are 3-5 minutes long.
